3 OUT OF 4 AMERICANS WANT THEIR
OWN BUSINESS

72 percent of American adults have considered starting
their own business according to a new survey
commissioned by Yahoo! Small Business and
conducted by Harris Interactive®.

Of the more than 2,200 adults surveyed, over half
(51 percent) said they would like to launch their
small business within the next 5 years. Clearly,
entrepreneurship is a part of the American Dream,
and the Internet is making it easier for people to
get started in many businesses.

Some other interesting facts from the poll:

- A majority of women (66 percent) have thought
about starting their own business;

- Only 24 percent of men and 16 percent of women
 have actually started one;

- Money wasn’t the #1 motivation for starting a
 business – instead, having a passionate hobby,
or a desire to do work you love, or simply being
 your own boss – topped the list;

- Age was not a determining factor – 56 percent
of those who hadn’t started a business yet thought
they would do so later in life.
